Peruvian artisans Edgar Mamani and Kathiana Quispe, both from Cusco, tell us about their experiences with textile art. Edgar makes toys woven with alpaca wool, and Kathiana prepares clothing accessories with Andean leather and textiles.

WHAT: CRAFTS

The renowned Peruvian artisan César Urbano, shows us how to prepare an authentic Retablo Ayacuchano (Ayacucho Altarpiece). This artistic genre has its origin more than 200 years ago, in colonial times when authorities used them to evangelize indigenous populations through the iconography of Catholic saints or biblical passages. Mr. Urbano prepared the Retablo Ayacuchano that the Peruvian Government presented to Pope Francis when he visited Peru in 2018.
